The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) is a politically binding agreement, prepared under the auspices of the United Nations, that covers all dimensions of international migration. The United Nations conference to adopt the compact will be held in Marrakesh, Morocco, on 10–11 December 2018.
The Daily Express reports:
"International Development Minister Alistair Burt said the UK “is supportive” of the UN’s Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration document which is the subject of a major conference in Morocco next week.
The document, to be signed in Marrakesh, seeks to make immigration a universal human right, so it will, in effect, become impossible to criticise immigration without being at risk of being jailed for hate speech.
The declaration has been met with fury by Italy, a nation that took in the second highest number of asylum seekers behind Germany last year. Italy is boycotting the meeting.
Other countries that have refused to sign the agreement are Austria, Australia, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Israel, Poland, Slovakia, Switzerland and the USA.
"Slovakia's Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini has said his government would "never" accept the pact because of its take on migration as a generally positive phenomenon, which contradicts Slovakia's will to distinguish among the migrants."
Earlier this year, Australia's then-Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said: “We’re not going to sign a document that surrenders our sovereignty.”
British MEP Janice Atkinson is claiming that the UN Compact on Migration would result in Europe being swamped with 59 million new migrants in the next 6 years.
